Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release is a safe, effective, hands-on technique, involving gentle sustained pressure and stretching into the connective tissue around the muscles, otherwise known as fascia, helping to eliminate pain, release tension and restore motion. Fascia, the soft tissue part of the connective tissue provides support and protection for most structures within the human body, especially the muscles. Tension, trauma, infection, inactivity and disease can cause this soft tissue to become restricted resulting in pain, muscle tension and reduced blood flow. Myofascial Release is performed either alone or as part of a massage treatment by working directly on skin at the start of a session. Without oils or creams the therapist can detect any fascial restrictions in the body and apply an appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate a release. Timing is key to this treatment and sometimes a stretch of the fascia can be held for up to 5-10 minutes.
