Bernadette Reed New Cross Natural Therapy Centre

One of the founder members of The New Cross Natural Therapy Centre in 1985, Bernadette has her own practice there as an Acupuncturist and Craniosacral Therapist. Her work embraces both Five Element Acupuncture and that of the Eight Principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, practised in China today.

She is a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC).

After qualifying as an acupuncturist, in 1990 she became a practitioner of Craniosacral Therapy, taught by Franklyn Sills at the Karuna Institute in Dartmoor. This is a gentle hands on form of treatment to encourage the body's free expression of the Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF), a brilliant concentrated liquid rising from deep within the nervous system: the river of life that carries the body's healing potential and expresses as our wellbeing.

She has experience of working both in private practice and within the NHS.

The range of Bernadette's practice is broad spectrum. She uses either Acupuncture or Craniosacral Therapy as requested and when their combined helpfulness is the most effective approach she uses both to offer support for : fertility - assisted conception (IVF) and natural conception; headaches that arise from stress and tension, also migraine headaches; muscles tightening around joints that reduce mobility, and cause pain and weariness; painful compressions of the spine as well as niggling back pain of a muscular strain type; digestive disorders - at the upper end and lower end of the digestive system; menstrual issues; endocrine disorders; circulatory disorders (Craniosacral Therapy can be used if acupuncture is contraindicated when the person is taking a significant level of anticoagulant drugs), hypertension; respiratory disorders and skin complaints; support for the after effects of Stroke: eg help to reduce swelling and encourage the return of strength and function to affected limbs. Please contact Bernadette for information on the British Acupuncture Council's fact sheet on acupuncture and the treatment of post-stroke health.

Personal healing experience: The road to becoming a complementary health practitioner started from an experience in my teens. I was a healthy young person until at the age of 17 yrs I woke up with an oppressive tight sensation in my head and face that I couldn?t shake. It didn't clear, but subsided enough for me to graduate from school and arrive at University where as a dance student it returned with a vengeance. It had all the stigma of being a 'weird' symptom as well as being debilitating physically, and was mentally quite demoralising: no one seemed to know what or why. The breakthrough happened when I met a healer who made such an impact by releasing so much of the pain that a young girl who had never considered a role in health care experienced a total life turn around.

After studying and graduating as an Acupuncturist and Craniosacral Therapist by my late twenties, young for those times, the commitment to and understanding of what being a holistic medicine practitioner meant took a mid life emergency to shift into deeper realisation. In spite of all the complementary therapy I had enjoyed, age 46, I needed radical allopathic intervention in the form of neurosurgery on a torn intravertebral disk in the centre of my neck that was pressing into 40% of my spinal cord.

After this surgery, the landmark in my awareness occurred when I attended my first Journey Intensive Seminar with Brandon Bays in 2005. During that event I allowed the emotional and spiritual impact of that neck trauma, and the holding patterns that had preceded it, to penetrate, without blocking or resistance, for the first time. The clearing of this shock and the suppressed emotional story around it was another road curve that has directed my commitment to help clients stay emotionally present and authentic to how their unacknowledged feelings can be carried in their physical body. From first hand experience I had now my own knowing that clearing emotional stories of pain and distress could lead to profound healing in me and other people, at a cellular level.

Other healing techniques: Thermo-auricular Therapy (Ear-Candling): This can be a technique that helps to clear head congestion in the Eustachian tubes and nasal sinuses.

Charges are £65 for initial consultation and treatment session which is one hour, and £60 for follow-up sessions which are 45 minutes per session.
